RESEARCH OF SULFURIC ACID CORROSION AND CORROSION PRODUCT OF POLY (METHYL METHACRYLATE)/ MONTMORILLONITE NANOCOMPOSITES |

Abstract The structure of poly (methyl methacrylate)/ montmorillonite (PMMA/MMT) nanocomposites was characterized by means of XRD and TEM. The sulfuric acid corrosion behavior of PMMA/MMT nanocomposites were studied using weight loss testing method, and the corrosion products were analyzed by FTIR and XPS. The solutions show that,exfoliated PMMA/MMT nanocomposites is made, and the corrosion rate of composites is 34.2 percent to PMMA when the mass fraction of MMT reaches 3 %. The corrosion products of both PMMA and its composites are C, H, O and S. Compared with the corrosion product of pure PMMA, C element content of the corrosion product of PMMA/ 3wt% MMT nanocomposites decreases while S and O elements increase introduced by the weaker of the degradation behavior of PMMA matrix for the barrier effect of MMT layer.
