Corrosion Fatigue Fracture Failure Analysis of High-strength Aluminum Alloy

Abstract  The fractography of high strength aluminum alloy LY12CZ riveted specimen with coating was investi?鄄gated after corrosion fatigue tests under stress in 3.5% NaCl solution. Fracture features like fatigue striation, dimple, cleavage, and intergranular fracture were observed. The corrosion fatigue mechanism was controlled by anodic dissolution. The failure mode was multi-crack fracture. Cracks were initiated from every rivet holes. The principal crack with longer propagation length and varying positions finally converged with other cracks and led to fatigue fracture.
