CERIUM CONVERSION COATINGS FORMED ONANODIZED ALUMINUM BY CATHODIC ELECTROLYSIS

Abstract  Cerium-rich conversion coatings were deposited on p orous film of anodized auminoum by cathodic electrolysis in a solution containin g 1 g/L CeCl3·7H2O and 10 ml/L H2O2.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (X PS),scanning electron microscopy (SEM),X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy disper sion analyzer of X-ray (EDAX) have been used to study these cerium-containing co nversion coatings.The results revealed that the microstructure of the cerium con version coatings was closely related to the porous structure of anodized film an d changed gradually with electrolysis time and cathodic current density.The coat ing being of an amorphous nature,predominately consisted of 3-valent-state ceriu m compound,and was up to about 140nm after one-hour cathodic electrolysis.
