Abstract  The wavelet transform theory was applied to investigate the correlation of the characteristics of the free corrosion potential signals and corrosion mechanism in the SSRT (slow strain rate test) of type 304 stainless steel. The group phenomena of type II discontinuity points in the potential signals showed the propagation of stress corrosion cracks
