K_2SO_4-Na_2SO_4 INDUCED LOW TEMPERATURE HOT CORROSION OF COMMERCIAL PURE IRON

Abstract  Low temperature hot corrosion behavior of commercial pure iron coated with K_2 SO_4-Na_2 SO_4 was studied in O_2-0.1,0.5 and 1.0%(SO_2+ SO_3)gas environments in the temperature range of 560 to 750℃.The experimental results indicate that the low temperature hot corrosion of iron is caused by the formation of low melting ternary sulfate containing K,Na and Fe,and that the corrosion can be explained on the basis of dissolution-precipitation mechanism.
