Abstract The pitting initiation conditions and electrochemical techniques for measuring pitting induction time of stainless steels have been discussed in this paper. The authors also discussed the effects of environment and material factors on pitting induction time and compared the difference between potentiostatic and galvanostatic techniques. Finally, the results measured by these methods mentioned above were discussed on the basis of the reaction mechanism
