Abstract  Comparative study on the short-term corrosion behavior of X65 pipeline steel welded joint in simulated shallow and deep sea was performed in laboratory, by using weight loss test, potentiodynamic polarization curves and observation of fracture surfaces by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results show that the corrosion rate of X65 pipeline steel welded joint in shallow sea was faster than that in deep sea. It was pitting corrosion in shallow sea; in deep sea, the corrosion only near the fusion-line (FL) was relatively serious. The corrosion of welded line was not obvious. The corrosion potential of HAZ was lower than welded line and matrix of X65 pipeline steel both in deep and shallow sea, it caused galvanic effect in welded line and accelerated HAZ corrosion. Then the product film of HAZ is thicker, and Rt value of HAZ was larger.
