AN INVESTIGATION ON MICROSTRUCTURES OF ALUMINIDED COATING AZ-2

Abstract It is found that there is a Cr and Mo‘rich zone’in AZ-2aluminide coating. It is located at about 12μm under the surface.In the outlayer of the coating two different γ'-phases appear after diffusion treatment and after static oxidation. The former is retained in the matrix during the coating process,while the latter is formed by the resolution of β-NiAl during static oxidation. σ-Phase is found in the Cr and Mo‘rich zone’,and is similar in composi- tion to that found in the inner layer of the coating.
