Abstract  The anodic polarization curves of mild steel and the critical passivation concentrations of vanadate inhibitor in hot potassium carbonate solutions with various conversion degrees are determined by rotating disk electrode in stable hydrodynamic conditions. The dependence of critical passivation concentration of vanadate on the conversion degree of K_2CO_3 is discussed. The synergistic effect of vanadate and antimonyl potassium tartrate in the passivation step of mild steel in hotpotassium carbonate solutions is studied. Some proposals about prepassivation of mild steel equipments in hot potassium carbonate CO_2-stripping systems are suggested.
