Abstract  A concept of the so-called comprehensive factor, N, which can quantitatively describe atmospheric corrosivity is suggested in this paper. N consists of wetness factor, corrosiveness facter and rain acidityfaCtor. The mathematic relationship between N and the corrosion rates of carbon or low alloy steels forthe first year has been found as followsR = A + B ×logNwhere R is the corrosion rate of carbon or low alloy steels, and A and B are regressive coefficients.Prediction equations for atmospheric corrosion of carbon and low alloy steels have been proposed.
